Tottenham agree £17.2m fee for Empoli keeper Guglielmo Vicario, with Spurs also gaining confidence over a move for Leicester's James Maddison as Newcastle focus on Sandro Tonali

Tottenham have agreed a £17.2million fee with Empoli for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

The 26-year-old is due in London this weekend to undergo a medical ahead of signing a five-year contract.

Spurs had been in talks for Brentford's David Raya but were reluctant to meet the £40m asking price.

Ange Postecoglou's side are also gaining confidence over a move for Leicester's James Maddison, despite the Foxes rejecting a £50m joint bid for the 26-year-old and his team mate Harvey Barnes last week.

Newcastle, who were also said to be in the race for Maddison, have turned their attentions to a £55m move for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.
