Last night was Coach Cal’s sixth victory over the top-ranked team in the AP Poll, moving his record to 6-4 overall, the best record by a coach against No. 1 teams in the history of college basketball. Only Roy Williams (8) and Gary Williams (7) have more wins against AP No. 1 teams. The impressive figure headlined SportsCenter.

It was Kentucky’s first win in a 1-2 matchup since the Wildcats handed John Calipari’s top-ranked UMass team an 81-74 loss on March 30, 1996. It’s also the first time UK has beaten No. 1 teams in back-to-back seasons.
