On the record: UA’s Phil Jagers advances to NCAA Championships in men’s discus

University of Akron junior Phil Jagers (Solon) finished first in the men’s discus on Friday at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary at North Florida University in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jagers won with a toss of 205-9 to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 8-11.

Jagers will be joined in Eugene by his brother, Kent State’s Reginald Jagers, who finished in fourth with a toss of 197-5.

Akron senior Claudia Garcia Jou tied for first in the women’s high jump and senior Caroline Hasse tied for 11th in the women’s pole vault to advance to the NCAA Championships.
