Jesse Ertz will open the season as Kansas State’s starting quarterback.
Ertz, a redshirt sophomore from Burlington, Iowa, won the job during preseason practices, beating Jonathan Banks, Alex Delton and Joe Hubener in a four-man competition that coach Bill Snyder described in early August as wide open.
Snyder announced Ertz as the starter Tuesday at his weekly news conference, revealing K-State’s first public depth chart of the season. On Monday, Snyder said he had chosen a starting quarterback, but preferred to wait a day before sharing his pick.
Ertz has little experience at the college level, rushing for 46 yards in four games as a backup.
