Big run helps Cats beat W. Illinois

Despite a 14-point lead at halftime, it seemed like the Kansas State men’s basketball team couldn’t put away Western Illinois.

But after the Leathernecks cut the Wildcat lead to 8 with less than eight minutes to play, K-State used a 20-3 run to put Western Illinois away in the first game of the regular season on Friday in Bramlage Coliseum.

The Wildcats came out of the locker room sluggish, and Western Illinois used a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 9 with 11:19 to play in the game.

Kamau Stokes started the 20-3 run with a pair of free throws and then Xavier Sneed hit a 3-pointer.
