Local sports briefs for April 19: ESU baseball tops FHSU in 11-inning thriller

The Emporia State baseball team won a wild affair with Fort Hays State on Sunday that went 11 innings and actually began on Saturday.

The Hornets (29-10, 19-10 MIAA) defeated the Tigers 12-11 in 11 innings, scoring the decisive run on an 11th-inning RBI single from Cody Bobbit.

Shawn Talkington (5-4) threw four innings of scoreless, one-hit ball to stop the bleeding after the first three ESU pitchers combined for 11 runs in the first seven innings.

The game, which was a continuation of a contest suspended Saturday in the first inning due to rain, saw seven total home runs, with Dean Long, Wade Hanna and Bobbit going yard for ESU.
