On This Date in Royals History: December 2

Dec. 2 is a historic day in Royals history, for more reasons than one. In consecutive years — 1970 and 1971 — the Royals acquired future All-Stars (and future Royals Hall of Famers) Fred Patek and John Mayberry on this date.

In 1970, the Royals acquired Patek, Jerry May and Bruce Dal Canton from Pittsburgh in exchange for Jim Campanis, Jackie Hernandez and Bob Johnson.

May hit .223 in 135 games behind the plate for Kansas City from 1971–73.

Dal Canton played for five seasons with the Royals (1971–75), going 26–27 with a 3.
