The Kansas City Royals will have a full bench on Friday, curing their lack of reserve infielders after calling up both Hunter Dozier and Whit Merrifield. Tony Cruz will give manager Ned Yost a third catcher, and Gore becomes another pinch running speed demon off the bench. After adding Brooks Pounders and Scott Alexander, the bullpen also gets closer Wade Davis back.
So much for the tired bullpen.
Merrifield’s presence along with extra-base machine Hunter Dozier (44 2B in MiLB, along with 1 3B and 23 HRs) will allow Ned Yost to more liberally pinch hit for light hitting rookie shortstop Raul Mondesi late in games.
