Royals Weekly: New Ace Emerges, Jarrod Dyson Returns And More

Overall, it's been a successful beginning to the 2016 MLB season for the Kansas City Royals. The defending World Series champions are 9-4 on the year, good for first place in the American League Central as they look to claim another series victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Let's look at how the Royals have done in the week gone by before we switch gears to the week ahead.

Last Week
The Royals had mixed results over the past week, sweeping the Houston Astros before dropping a weekend season to the Oakland A's. The highlight of the Astros series was offseason addition Ian Kennedy taking a no hitter into the sixth inning of the finale before finishing with his second win of the season. The rubber match against Oakland was a heartbreaker, but K.C. rebounded with a win over Detroit on Tuesday, with Salvador Perez knocking in a career-high five runs.

Outfielder Jarrod Dyson also made his return in that game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored after an extended rehab in the minors for a strained right oblique.

What's Next
The Royals will try to continue their momentum against the Tigers with the resurgent Kennedy (2-0, 0.66 ERA) and Edinson Volquez (2-0, 2.04 ERA) taking the mound on consecutive days. Next up after that is a weekend series with Manny Machado and the Baltimore Orioles, who are currently first in the AL East.
