Jacksonville native Leon Washington to be coaching intern for Jaguars

Jacksonville native and former Florida State running back/return man Leon Washington was announced Wednesday as one of five coaching interns for Jaguars training camp.

Washington and Shawn Bryson will work with the offense, Dexter Jackson and Bo Davis with the defense and Chad Lucas with the special teams.

All five coaches will be on the field Thursday morning for the opening practice.

Washington starred at Jackson High (he was the state’s top player in 2002) and Florida State before the New York Jets drafted him in the fourth round in 2006. Over nine years with four teams, Washington returned seven kickoffs for touchdowns (tied for first in NFL history) and totaled 2,271 rushing yards and 1,286 receiving yards.
