Gene Frenette: Time right to induct Jimmy Smith

All-time leading receiver Jimmy Smith belongs in the Pride of the Jaguars, but the best part about him being honored during a home game against the Minnesota Vikings (Dec. 11) has nothing to do with football.

Finally, after being in denial about his substance abuse issues in his last few NFL seasons (1995-2005) and in retirement, Smith has owned up to his addiction.

The Jaguars were reluctant to induct him into the Pride, which would have happened back when Wayne Weaver still owned the team, until they were convinced Smith was on a legitimate road to sobriety.
