Hometown kid Desmond Cooper working for shot with Jaguars

Safety Desmond Cooper is no stranger to beating the odds.

His road to getting a spot on the Jaguars 90-man roster for organized team activities (OTAs) was a long and bumpy one. Now he’s the hometown kid trying to make the hometown team.

“I was born and raised a Jaguars fan,’’ Cooper said.

A St. Johns county native who played at the Bolles School and his final two years collegiately at UNC Charlotte, Cooper wasn’t exactly in demand the past few months.

He wasn’t invited to the scouting combine or drafted, and received no offers when teams were looking to fill out their rosters by signing undrafted rookies the night the draft concluded.
