Ex-Colts LB Jonathan Newsome heads north for second chance

Once a promising young piece of the Indianapolis Colts defense, Jonathan Newsome is now looking for a second chance, and doing so north of the border.

This week, the former Ball State standout signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.

Newsome was released by the Colts following an arrest for marijuana possession in February. In April, he pleaded guilty to one count of maintaining a common nuisance, was sentenced to supervised probation but avoided a felony conviction.

“I look at it as God’s plan,’’ Newsome told the Regina Leader-Post Thursday. “I can’t dwell on the past and my past mistakes.
