Colts Notebook: Wildcat growing in offensive gameplan

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts' version of the "wildcat" formation fully sprang to life on Nov. 20, when running back Frank Gore took a direct snap and pitched the ball to quarterback Andrew Luck — who went in motion after lining up as a wide receiver.

The play quickly broke down. Luck's first option was deep shot for wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, but it was covered. Option No. 2 was wideout Donte Moncrief, but he wasn't open either.

So Luck considered throwing the ball away before spotting Gore near the sideline. He'd snuck out of the backfield unnoticed after beginning the flea flicker and was now running free.
