Colts Place QB Andrew Luck On IR, Meaning He Will Not Play This Season

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they have placed quarterback Andrew Luck on injured reserve, ending his season without him playing a game.

General manager Chris Ballard is discussing the decision live on Periscope:

“I wish I was better and 100 percent this season, but that’s not the case,” Luck said in a statement. “I know I’ll be better from this. I know I’ll be a better quarterback, teammate, person and player from this, and I’m excited for the future.”

Luck underwent surgery on his right shoulder in the offseason and was expected to return for the start of the regular season. However, the injury has not healed as expected, keeping him off the field.  He has met with other doctors over the past few weeks to receive more opinions on his shoulder, which he will continue to do.

Jacoby Brissett, who the Colts traded for before the start of the season, will be the team's starter for the rest of the season.

In 15 games last year, Luck passed for 4,240 yards with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He also ran for 341 yards and two more scores.
