CHAMPAIGN — Illinois men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood solidified his coaching staff Wednesday by hiring former Bradley assistant Ron Coleman.

Coleman, who also had stints at UIC and under current Nebraska coach Tim Miles at Colorado State, becomes the third assistant for the Illini. Coleman worked under former BU coach Geno Ford for three seasons starting in 2012.

Most notably, Coleman coached the Mac Irvin Fire. Recent alums of the legendary, Chicago-based AAU program include Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander.

Soon-to- be Illini Da’Monte Williams of Manual also played his AAU basketball for Mac Irvin Fire.
