UI notes: Fisher's arm, Yalowitz's bat key in series-opening win

PHOENIX — Andy Fisher came six outs short of a no-hitter in Friday night's series opener at Grand Canyon.

Jack Yalowitz made sure the left-hander's efforts were rewarded.

Yalowitz posted five RBI, including a pair of solo home runs, Fisher allowed only one hit in seven-plus innings and the Illini won 6-3 over the Antelopes.

Tyler Wyatt's single to begin the eighth broke up Fisher's no-hit bid. Fisher was tagged for a run, striking out six and walking three. Yalowitz went 4 for 4 at the plate to lead Illinois (8-3).
