CHICAGO — Jason Davis was so close to Darnell Salomon that he could almost feel the wind from the South Florida receiver as he blew by the entire Illinois defensive backfield and sprinted into the Soldier Field end zone to score the go-ahead touchdown late in the Week 3 contest against Illinois.
"I've got something, Ed," the former Illini fullback and Illinois radio sideline reporter said into his microphone as play-by-play commentator Brian Barnhart's voice bellowed in his headphones.
"Guys, it's OK," he said after WDWS producer Ed Bond turned up a dial to put Davis' voice live on the radio.
