No apologies needed, Illinois outplayed Nebraska. Let’s start there.
The Illini dropped too many passes on a windy day, the loss of Josh Ferguson (injured shoulder on a 48-yard run) threw the game plan out the window, the UI punting and kicking stunk and the offense flinched early in the red zone.
But Illinois outplayed Nebraska, and the miracle finish in Saturday’s 14-13 thriller couldn’t have happened if the UI’s huskies didn’t outgrapple Nebraska’s big uglies, and if the UI’s alert defensive backs didn’t outperform Nebraska’s secondary.
