CHAMPAIGN — The latest Illinois athletics Hall of Fame class will receive their recognition during a formal ceremony at State Farm Center on Sept. 20.
Much like the first two classes did.
But the third class of decorated former Illini athletes and coaches won't get a summer Friday night in downtown Chicago to celebrate during a black-tie event at the Field Museum.
When Illinois announced its latest class of 16 inductees on Wednesday, officials also announced it would not include a 2019 Hall of Fame Gala in Chicago.
Instead, Illinois plans to, starting in 2021, hold the aforementioned Gala in Chicago every five years.
