Interim Athletic Director Paul Kowalczyk says he will not be a candidate for the permanent AD job at Illinois.
“I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the university as the Interim Athletics Director and I have the utmost respect for Interim Chancellor Barb Wilson and President Tim Killeen. However, I will not seek the permanent Director of Athletics position at this time,” Kowalczyk said in a statement to The News-Gazette.
The UI announced a search committee for the athletic director’s job on Friday and top officials hope to make a selection to replace Mike Thomas by early January.
