Illini Legends, Lists and Lore | March 25

Happy Birthday to former Illini All-America goalkeeper Leisha Alcia.

Originally recruited from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada by then coach Tricia Taliaferro, Alcia played three of her four seasons under Janet Rayfield. From 2001 to 2004, she starred as the Illini net minder, starting 83 of 85 matches.

Cumulatively, Alcia yielded just ninety goals to her opponents in nearly 7,700 minutes between the posts, recording a microscopic goals-against average of 1.05.

Her numerous school records also included twenty-four shutouts in forty-eight total victories, resulting in first-team All-Big Ten and All-America honors, and the UI Female Athlete of the Year award (2004).
