Matt Daniels, acting sports editor since Jan. 1, has been promoted to sports editor.
The 29-year-old Edwardsville High School and Eastern Illinois University grad has been with our company since July 2011, helping elevate a sports section that has received national honors 24 times in the last 19 years. Most recently, Matt placed sixth in feature writing (30,000-75,000 circulation category) in the annual Associated Press Sports Editors contest.
Matt will — with the help of longtime beat writer Bob Asmussen — continue to cover Illinois football in these pages and, with our online readership growing at an astronomical pace, for our website.
