Report: Illini to travel to Providence in Big Ten/Big East Challenge

According to a report on CBSSprots.com, Illinois will play at Providence as part of the first-ever Gavitt Games, pitting teams from the Big Ten against the Big East. The date and time of the game will be announced at a later date.

The series, similar to the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, was announced last spring in an effort tot bring more high-quality games to campuses as opposed to playing at neutral sites.

Providence finished 22-12 last season and earned a No. 6 seed on the NCAA tournament where it lost to Dayton in the opener.

The Friars will lost top scorer LaDontae Henton next season and second-leading scorer Kris Dunn os still deciding whether to enter the NBA draft.
