Vandals in second after first day

HOUSTON – The University of Idaho had a strong showing during Wednesday's opening night of the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with a school record in the 800 freestyle relay and the advancement of five divers in the 3-meter competition.

"The 800 freestyle relay was really cool to watch," coach Mark Sowa said. "Breaking our school record by four seconds with four sophomores is a sign of good things to come."

Idaho is second after the opening day of the four-day competition.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Aileen Pannecoucke, Erica King, Sarah Hall, and Leah Fisk finished third with the Vandal record time of 7:21.
