Jake Livermore helps Hull City prevent embarrassment against Liverpool

A first away defeat of the season could hardly have been more emphatic. Hull City were outclassed by an effervescent Liverpool side and were fortunate to escape with a semblance of pride intact. That was not a given once Ahmed Elmohamady was sent off in a penalty incident that gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead just after the half-hour mark. Phillipe Coutinho made it 4-1 early in the second half, and from then on it was damage limitation for a City side that has now lost three of their last four Premier League games.

Positives

Avoiding embarrassment was about as good as it got for Hull City in what was the club's heaviest league defeat for seven years.
