Texans' rookie center Nick Martin could need surgery

The high ankle sprain suffered by rookie center Nick Martin is serious enough that it could possibly require surgery, according to Texans coach Bill O'Brien.

A decision on whether the second-round draft pick from Notre Dame will undergo surgery hasn't been determined, though.

The swelling in Martin's ankle still needs to subside for the Texans and their doctors to make a final determination on whether he'll undergo surgery.

Martin was penciled in as an immediate starter for the Texans, so this is another big setback for the offensive line.

The Texans already are down two starters, including starting tackles Duane Brown (quadriceps surgery) and Derek Newton (strained hamstring).
