Texans make surprising moves in rounding out 53-man roster

In a series of surprising moves today when they reduced their roster from 90 to 53, the Texans waived quarterback Brandon Weeden and guard David Quessenberry, retained kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn over Nick Novak, kept six running backs and kept injured receiver Will Fuller on the active roster.

The 53-man roster is an evolving process, so expect it to change as the Texans prepare for the Sept. 10 regular-season opener against Jacksonville at NRG Stadium.

The Texans kept all six draft choices – quarterback Deshaun Watson, inside linebacker Zach Cunningham, running back D'Onta Foreman, offensive tackle Julién Davenport, defensive end Carlos Watkins, cornerback Treston Decoud and center/guard Kyle Fuller.
