Texans veteran outside linebacker John Simon has been fined $18,000 for his hit on New Orleans Saints Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees.
Simon plans to appeal the NFL punishment.
Simon was penalized for roughing the passer Saturday night during a preseason game against the New Orleans Saints at NRG Stadium.
During the play, Simon made contact with Brees after Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney had already engaged Brees.
Simon recorded a career-high five sacks last season.
He returned a fumble 41 yards for a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers in the Texans' preseason opener.
