Rockets to start season without Patrick Beverley, Donatas Motiejunas

The Rockets ended preseason without a pair of players that they had planned to play significant roles in the regular season. Pat Beverley will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday. The Rockets announced he would be reevaluated in three weeks and Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said Beverley could miss 20 games. Restricted free agent Donatas Motiejunas remains unsigned.

Those absences could open playing time for a player or two, and will create a roster spot for one player when the final cuts are made on Monday.

"You're talking two guys (expected) to play 60 minutes, 30 each, that aren't here," D'Antoni said.
