It might have made more sense to give post-season awards when fans could remember the season without checking the history and record books, but for the Rockets, there is a nice benefit to the NBA finally getting around to it Monday night.
A reunion is not necessary the day after graduation. Like high school chums getting back together to catch up on old times and what they've been doing since, the Rockets – or at least the portion up for awards -- can gather in New York and think about how they got there.
While the Rockets and most of the NBA have emotionally moved on to next season, with the draft leading to the storm of free agency doings to begin this week, the made-for-television event will look at last season.
