Despite gaudy stats, Rockets hold themselves to higher standard

Early in the season, the Rockets would have celebrated. They hit 22 3-pointers, scored 142 points, led for all but 80 seconds on the way to the win. They would have liked that.

The Rockets in the final days of February would not allow themselves to be blinded by the large numbers on the scoreboard.

They were nice numbers, and necessary to beat the Timberwolves. But the Rockets have come to aspire to greater goals than fraying the corners of record books while checking where the latest 3-fest ranks.

The Rockets looked past the most recent record – most games with at least 20 3-pointers – to see the playoffs looming.
