Carlos Gomez and a fresh start in a new city

Carlos Gomez grabbed his bat Friday afternoon and was ready to enter the cage at Minute Maid Park, just as stretch was ending and the Astros’ workout began.

Marwin Gonzalez started laughing, and asked the new Astros center fielder what he was doing. It was time for infield practice, not hacks just yet.

Every team has its own routines and idiosyncrasies, and the adjustments for a just-traded player can be small, but they’re always multiple. Gomez, the 29-year-old center fielder the Astros acquired from the Brewers on Thursday, will have to make them all in his early days with his new team.
