Since 2000, the Packers have drafted eight players who ran the 40-yard dash in less than 4.40 seconds at the NFL Combine. Speed is a nice thing to have, but a blistering time in the 40 hasn’t always translated into success for these Packers draftees.
For every Nick Collins, there is an Ahmad Carroll. For every Javon Walker, there is a David Clowney. This is no surprise; as it turns out, there’s more to playing in the NFL than just running fast.
But it never hurts to be faster than everyone else, either, and when you combine great speed with a willingness to work hard and improve your craft, it’s possible to find something truly special.
