Tryout players look to beat odds — like Lucas Patrick did — at Packers' rookie camp

GREEN BAY — At some point — after their physicals, or after their equipment fittings, or after the team meeting where Mike McCarthy greets them and welcomes them to the Green Bay Packers — the 15 to 20 tryout players taking part in this weekend’s annual post-draft rookie orientation camp should track down Lucas Patrick.

Whether they stake out his locker, or follow him en masse to his parking spot in the players’ lot, or beg administration coordinator Matt Klein for Patrick’s home address, they need to learn his story — and know that even though they’re not among the team’s 11 draft picks or 15 or so undrafted free-agent signees, they can keep their NFL dreams alive — as long as they don’t throw away their shot this weekend.
