Harold Varner III got the last PGA Tour card via the Web.com Tour regular season, finishing 25th exactly on the end-of-season money list, and he is putting it to good use quickly.
On a gettable Silverado Country Club North Course layout Thursday at the Frys.com Open, the 25-year-old held steady for much of the round, posting four birdies and a bogey in his first 15 holes.
Then came the searing finish.
Varner knocked his second shot to the par-5 16th to 18 feet and rolled in the eagle putt, followed with a stone-dead wedge for birdie on 17 and capped it off with a two-putt birdie on 18.
