U.S. Women's Open winner Chun to claim LPGA membership next year

TURNBERRY, Scotland – In Gee Chun will claim LPGA membership based on her U.S. Women’s Open victory, but she’ll wait to do so next year.

Chun, 20, met with LPGA officials Tuesday at the Ricoh Women’s Open to inform them of her decision. She had the option of claiming membership for the rest of this year and next year, but she’s deferring it, which means it’s a one-year exemption. She will play the rest of this year primarily on the Korean LPGA Tour.

After winning the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club, Chun returned to South Korea and followed up with another victory.
