U.S. buoyed by comebacks, only trail 7-5 at Walker Cup

Great Britain & Ireland was hot early and cooled down late as the United States turned the tide on the back nine to square the afternoon singles four points apiece and only cede a 7-5 GB&I lead after day one of the 45th Walker Cup at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

After earning a 3-1 lead in the morning foursomes, GB&I seemed in good control of the Walker Cup, and as the singles matches unfolded with GB&I up in three matches at the turn and down in only one, the momentum of the morning was clearly evident.

But slowly, the USA made a dent in the GB&I machine.
