Rodgers skips U.S. Open qualifier to focus on PGA Tour play

COLUMBUS, Ohio — It shouldn’t be viewed as a snub of the U.S. Open. Rather, Patrick Rodgers’ decision to forgo the sectional qualifier here Monday is a testament to his PGA Tour commitment.

One day after securing Special Temporary Membership with a sprint to the finish line at the Memorial Tournament, the former Stanford star reassessed the landscape and chose to go to Memphis, Tenn., and prepare for this week’s FedEx St. Jude Classic. Rodgers got word Sunday that he had received a spot into that field and his thinking immediately shifted to how best to obtain full membership for 2015-16.
