Three weeks ago, Brett Stegmaier found himself at No. 81 on the Web.com Tour money list. Now, he is making a run at his PGA Tour card.
Stegmaier, 32, leads the Small Business Connection Championship, the second of four events in the Web.com Tour Finals, after a first-round, 9-under 63 Thursday at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C. The former University of Florida golfer opened with a 7-under 29 on the front nine with five birdies and an eagle before adding two more birdies on the back.
After finishing seventh in the Tour's regular-season finale in Portland, Stegmaier moved inside the top 75 on the money list and qualified for the Web.
