Mitchell’s clutch save on 18th edges Koepka in U.S. Amateur Round of 64

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Todd Mitchell has been out of baseball so long that he doesn’t even know how being a former minor-league shortstop influences his golf game anymore. He says that early on, though, when he started getting serious about golf after baseball, being an athlete helped him a good deal.

“It think it helps,” he said, “having experience under the gun. In baseball, obviously, it’s a reactionary sport, so whenever the ball is put in play, you go off of that. Here, you have to make it do that.

“It’s all on you here.”

He was under the gun for sure on Wednesday in the opening round of the 115th U.
