Long Island club will play host to 2017 Barclays, GM says

A prominent Long Island club has landed its first big-time professional golf championship. Glen Oaks Club, a 27-hole facility in Old Westbury, N.Y., will be home to the 2017 Barclays, the first of that season’s PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoff events, a club official told Golfweek on Tuesday. The PGA Tour event is slated for Aug. 24-27.

Jeffrey S. Riegler, Glen Oaks Club’s general manager, confirmed that “a contract is being negotiated” with the PGA Tour. “In contract negotiations,” he said, “it’s a process that takes some time.”

The development ends speculation that the PGA Tour was seriously considering holding the event at a newly opened daily-fee municipal facility in the Bronx, N.
