Warriors’ Varejao to miss hometown Olympics

Warriors backup center Anderson Varejao carried the Olympic torch for Brazil, but he won’t be able to compete in next month’s games.

Varejao was diagnosed with a small lower back disc herniation after being examined this week by Dr. Robert Watkins at the Marina Spine Center in Marina Del Rey, according to the Warriors.

The 6-foot-10, 33-year-old averaged 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 8.5 minutes after joining the Warriors midseason in 2015-16. He re-signed for a veteran’s minimum contract this month.
