JaVale McGee's new album Pierre is already racking up positive reviews

When professional athletes go into music, the move often results in albums that are gimmicky at best and unlistenable at worst. But Warriors center JaVale McGee is already racking up positive reviews for his debut album.

Released under the name of music alter ego, Pierre, the eponymous 16-track album was released on Friday, just a day before the Warriors start their postseason run. It features guest spots from a number of collaborators, including Rome Castille and Blaze Servin, and as well as a track named for fellow athlete Lionel Messi.

Billboard says McGee's album is full of "carefully cut high-quality beats, each curated in a way that sounds about radio-ready," while UPROXX dubbed the debut "strong" and called McGee "a legitimate hip-hop producer.
