UGA football linemen wearing padded helmet covers designed to reduce impact

The equipment worn by Georgia’s offensive and defensive linemen in practice now includes more than the standard shoulder pads, gloves, helmets and chin straps.

Those players who typically have the most collisions this preseason are for the first time donning helmet covers intended to reduce the force of those impacts.

They are Guardian Caps, a padded, soft-shell cover that goes on the helmet. It is made by a Peachtree Corners based technology and material sciences company.
