When Georgia and Florida play each this Saturday, it will be the first time the Bulldogs’ Kirby Smart and the Gators’ Jim McElwain have faced each other as head coaches.
But it won’t be the first time they’ve been around each other on a football field.
Prior to their current roles as head coaches for the two rival schools, Smart and McElwain worked together for four seasons (2008-11) at Alabama, where Smart was the defensive coordinator and McElwain the offensive coordinator.
And not only did they have a good working relationship, but they also became good friends.
