GAINESVILLE — The dark days of spring are a distant memory now for coach Jim McElwain.
Six months ago, the Florida Gators barely had enough players — by one — to even field a starting offensive line.
Last weekend, the Gators' front was the unsung hero of UF's 38-10 shocker against then-No. 3 Ole Miss. The unit gave quarterback Will Grier the time he needed to come up with a four-touchdown performance against one of the nation's fiercest front fours.
"We're growing up," McElwain said. "We're getting a little bit better. We're learning to compete."
In April, the Gators could not stage a spring scrimmage because the team had just six offensive linemen on scholarship.
