The season-long logjam of running backs in Florida’s backfield is about to be reduced with a transfer. Running back Jordan Cronkrite has been released from his scholarship with the Gators, the university confirmed Thursday, and he is exploring a potential transfer.

Cronkrite, a sophomore, carried 31 times for 145 yards in 2016. He got most of his opportunities early in the season.

Eventually, though, he lost ground in the running back rotation to Jordan Scarlett (795 yards), Lamical Perine (402 yards) and Mark Thompson (295 yards).

Cronkrite led Florida running backs with 20 receptions, a total that was good for fourth on the team.
