While the report of Malik Zaire choosing the Florida Gators on Sunday can’t be reciprocated by the program itself, a commitment can — and the Gators got one from Gainesville cornerback Trent Whittemore, who committed via his Twitter account Sunday afternoon.
That commitment went largely unnoticed at the moment it happened, but Florida coach Jim McElwain followed more than an hour later with a #ChompChomp tweet used to signal a commitment, and so Whittemore’s commitment appears genuine.
Whittemore, a 2019 defensive back, attends Gainesville’s Buchholz High, and is likely more safety than corner, though he lines up at both positions in his sophomore-year highlights.
