Austin Appleby: I’m not at Florida to be a backup

“I didn’t come here to not play. I came here to compete and earn this stating job,” Appleby told reporters Wednesday. “The way I do that is just be me. If I take care of the things I need to take care of, control what I can control, I believe everything will take care of itself.”

Appleby (6 feet 4, 235 pounds) started 11 times during the past two seasons at Purdue after wresting the starting job from Danny Etling, who now is at LSU, in 2014. Appleby threw for 2,777 yards, 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions with the Boilermakers.
